Desert Mission Food Bank in north Phoenix is experiencing a sharp rise in need, now serving around 6,000 residents each month.
This marks a threefold increase since 2021.
To keep up, the food bank urgently seeks more volunteers to help sort donations, pack produce, serve local families, and assemble snacks for kids.
According to Engagement Manager Krystina Toscas, demand surges in summer and early fall, when regular volunteers are scarce and students return to class.
Anyone 16 or older (or 14 with an adult) can sign up, with flexible two-hour shifts available Monday through Friday and extra chances to help at special events.
Signing up is simple on the Desert Mission website, and every volunteer hour brings real hope to neighbors facing food insecurity.
